From Carole Manny on The Texas Nationalist Movement …
I got to the part about Texas being unable to defeat the federal government in a war and stopped to post this to the comments:
“I love this idea that Texas couldn’t prevail militarily against the federal government. Afghanistan prevailed militarily over the Russians and then the Americans. Sure, the feds could bomb the crap out of Texas and be rewarded with a smoking hole in the ground, if you call that a win. If you want something left to rule over, then you’re looking at a long, drawn-out conflict of the type the US has spent the last 50 years serially losing. Texas could very reasonably be expected to prevail, but in practice other states would probably join it if the feds tried to force it to remain.
“The states–all the states–have every right to leave the union whenever they decide it’s in their best interests. The states are not subordinate to the federal government; on the contrary: The Constitution strictly limits the powers of the federal government and is clear that everything not explicitly permitted to the feds is the province of the states and the people.
“Finally, if your state were already an independent country and someone proposed joining the US, the brokest country in history in which every child is born owing $90,000, with a currency that’s lost 97% of its value since 1913, galloping inflation, rigged elections, a banana republic court system, an expanding police state, an armed IRS, a history of relentlessly shoving its nose into other countries’ affairs, and endless warmongering on one pretext or another: If you were asked to vote on whether to remain an independent country or throw in with that basket case, how would you vote? It’s not a question of Texas “getting too big for the United States.” It’s a question of the United States getting too corrupt for Texas.”
Great thanks to Carole for making this crucial point. The U.S. voting system is corrupt beyond repair and there will be no fixing it or voting our way out of the mess. As such, the one vote that WILL make a difference is your state’s vote to leave. So, if you are going to help “Get out the vote” make it about the vote to leave the tyranny of the U.S. government. For Texans the place to go to make this happen is www.tnm.me and www.texitnow.org
