John Whitehead skillfully describes our current predicament:
Ominous phrasing for sure: "… backs to the wall ... under their stamping boot ... gasping for breath.” All in grim reference to Orwell's chilling vision no doubt. Based on current events, it’s hard to disagree … feels like a slow motion train wreck with a side of dumpster fire.
So what does one do when confronted with the prospect of imminent man-made calamity? Well … let’s imagine if you will, being caught in a street fight, surrounded and trapped in a tight spot with the aforementioned physical limitation, i.e., some stupid wall behind you.
Unless you're the incredible wall-busting Hulk, retreat is not an option. What about the strategy of charging straight ahead? Yeah, probably about as likely to work as another guy named Kennedy becoming president.
So, unless you can fly or have super duper leaping powers (hey call me!), your one and only move is Lateral. So you lunge to your strong side and battle with great valor. Against all odds, and relying on guts and rugged tenacity, you fight your way to the end of the wall. A little surprised at your successful move you wonder, “Now what?”
And then you realize it’s time for that classic, time-tested maneuver: Turn and Walk Away. That’s right, you simply leave. You go to the beach, the bowery, whatever, you simply split. And as you depart, you vow to ignore this enemy with all your might. You pledge to ignore their stupid rules, their royal mandates, their lying lips.
Taking the metaphor to its logical extreme, if We the People can come together, walk away, and Ignore the worst government in all of history, we may have a shot at some real freedom. As a bonus we may be playing “Taps” for a despotic Fedgov shriveling into a great, rotting pile of human maleficence that history will somehow have to digest.
The great Yogi Berra once famously said, “When you come to a fork in the road, take it.” I’m not sure I know what he meant, but I’m sure he did.
At the risk of abusing yet another metaphor, the unraveling Union of States has come to a fork in the road. By definition a fork requires a decision … gotta choose one path or the other. You’re not allowed to just camp out at the fork and wait for the storm to blow over. Good way to end up in a Kansas cornfield, Toto.
Let’s analyze our little metaphorical fork. Taking one path means to stay in the Union. This path leads to more phony elections shoved down your throat, more innocents behind bars, more people everywhere slaughtered in senseless, endless, winless wars of greedy hegemonic jackals. Color me silly but it seems like the other path has just got to be better … no matter where it leads!
Of course the MIC (miscreants in charge) will not take kindly to anybody trying to exit their long constructed prison of taxpaying serfs. Expect Civil War Scam 2.0 to be executed. Since they no longer have that slavery thing as an excuse to invade, maybe these clowns will resort to attacking your movement’s Reckless Climate Denialism. Or perhaps your penchant for asking too many questions is just plain illegal or something (you dirty dog domestic terrorist, yeah that’s it).
The handwriting is on the wall (dang wall again). Many folks are coming to the conclusion that the price of staying in this wannabe banana republic far exceeds the price of leaving it. To wit, lots of people are eyeballing the idea of their own State’s Independence.
The Texas movement seems to be the most advanced of these, which kind of makes sense. The Lone Star State already did the whole Independent Nation thing when our ancestors fought and died to win their freedom from Santa Anna, heinous dictator and Chief Creep of Mexico back in the day.
Paid for with the blood of 185 true patriots, not to mention a whole bunch of unfortunate Mexican fellows, Texas became a free republic. For a couple decades anyway, until the credulous decision to join the union in 1845. It's been a downhill ride to total government ever since, one that has accelerated and led us ultimately to this, Our Great Valley of Decision.
The proposition is simple: We want a vote. Not secession. Not revolution. Not violence. Just a peaceful vote to find out where we stand. Then we can go from there. If nothing else, maybe we owe it to the Bravehearts who gave everything they had at the Alamo so that others could be free.
Maybe the people speak and freedom rings again,
